inbound emails failing after applying SSL certificate in the SMTP VS

Hello, asking for help,

here the scenario:

Exchange 2003 running on a Windows 2003 Std 32 bit

Last week of July all emails from users that use Microsoft office 365 were bouncing back to the user and never delivery to my exchange,

by recommendation from Microsoft we applied Hotfix KB948963-x86 --Which fixed the problem and emails from 365 started to flow,

but this broke something else, now we are having some other clients that use to send emails form other email domain/email server, are now not able to deliver messages, also if I do an mx lookup I get that TLS is not supported even it is enabled.

If I apply the SSL certificate to the SMTP VS all and enable TLS, all emails from external sources are not delivered and sessions just keeps open and emails never received.

to allow emails to flow , I have to remove the certificate, but still have some customers complaining, plus in the mx lookup keeps saying TLS not supported.

when certificate applied and TLS enabled here is a record of the log when trying to send an email from my gmail address.

How to transfer Hosted email accounts outside to a Local Server with exchange

Hi all,

I am recently working to a small company where they have their email is hosted to a company, and they have their outlook configured to receive email from the hosting company, but they have a size limit. Once they reach that limit, they are no longer capable of receiving emails. So, they have purchase a server and I have installed Windows Server 2012 with an Exchange.

I would to know if any can suggest me how can I move or transfer they emails from the hosting company to the Local Exchange Server inside the company building and start receiving emails from the new exchange.

The client outlook is already configured with the hosted company. I just want them to start receiving email from the new Exchange, not from the hosting company.

I need step by step instruction please

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

NDR since adding additional Exchange servers

We currently have a single Exchange 2010 server with the mbx, hub and cas roles installed. The same server also happens to be a domain controller. It's an inherited system/infrastructure and we know this isn't best practice. We therefore setup a new DC and two new Exchange 2010 servers with all 3 roles as we want a 2 node Exchange 2010 HA cluster. The plan was to retire the old exchange server/dc once all roles, services, databases, etc were migrated to the new 2 node ha cluster. Yesterday we setup the 2 new Exchange 2010 servers. We went with a basic install (again with all 3 roles) for each of the 2 new Exchange servers. Other than applying MS updates we haven't made any amendments to the 2 new servers or the existing Exchange server (ie: they're basic default installs of Exchange). We can see all 3 servers are now listed in the EMC.

This afternoon users started reporting they were receiving NDR in Outlook. The NDR are from emails to outbound external recipients between yesterday and today (ie: since adding the 2 new Exchange servers into the organisation). The message the user receives is:

Delivery is delayed to these recipients or groups:abc@abc.comSubject: ABC

This message hasn't been delivered yet. Delivery will continue to be attempted.
The server will keep trying to deliver this message for the next 1 days, 19 hours and 58 minutes. You'll be notified if the message can't be delivered by that time.

It appears Outlook clients are trying to route via any of Exchange the servers including the two new ones. We assumed this wouldn't be the case. We began troubleshooting but were asked to find a solution quickly due to the impact it was having on the business. We have had to shutdown the 2 new Exchange servers before we could identify the issue. Outlook clients are now able to send emails without getting an NDR.

Before we shutdown the 2 new Exchange servers we tried a telnet test from a client pc to all 3 Exchange servers. The original server accepted the telnet but the 2 new servers refused with an authentication error.

We now need to resolve the issue out of hours which means we have a short window where we can bring the two new servers up at the weekend.

Could someone point us in the right direction? I guess this is a send/receive connector issue or perhaps CAS?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Setting up relay between SBS 2011 Exchange to Exchange 2013

Hello,

I'm having some issue setting up the send connectors between two exchange servers on the same internal network.   The SBS 2011 will be going away.   The new 2013 server will eventually take over.   Lets saybob@acme.com is not on the old server.   I want it to send that email to the new server if it can't find that person.

The new server is already configured to receive emails and I can send emails to it directly but can't get messages forwarded from the old server.   Since the old server is a SBS server, there is no trust or domain sharing between the two servers.   The only thing they have in common is the accepted external email domains.

Do I set up a partner, internet, internal, custom send connector?   If anyone would be willing to spoon feed it to me I'd greatly appreciate it.  I've looked at numerous articles so sending me to an MS article probably won't help.

When I try to send to an address through the old server that is not on it but IS on the new server, I get this -

Remote Server returned '550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound; not found'

Exchange Contacts, acceped domains, policies and GAL updates

Greetings,

I have come into an Exchange 2010 environment that was configured some time ago and the current SMEs don't fully understand what is happening and why.

Let's say our domain is @abc.com. We have another part of our organization with a completely separate Exchange environment called, say, @xyz.com. Every day they dump AD contacts into one of our OUs - so this would include updates/deletions and new contacts. What process updates our GAL from this OU? I cannot find where in the exchange console it points to this OU. Or does the GAL update process all AD contacts from all OUs automatically?

We have an email address policy for all mail contacts which adds a new SMTP email address called <name>@contacts.local. We then have an Accepted domain called contacts.local which is configured as an internal relay. What is this all about? I thought that if I wanted to send a message to anyone @xyz.com, our exchange server would do the normal MX record lookup and send away.

A large number of our @xyz.contacts have blank X400 addresses. why would this be? When I run a powershell script to remove the blank X400 address from a single contact, I get a message saying "This object must be upgraded..."? Why is this? Could it be related to the fact that we upgraded from EX2003 to Ex2010 a couple of years ago?

Thanks

David Z

I am trying to setup the Hybrid configuration so we can migrate to Office 365 and the Hybrid Configuration keeps failing with the error listed below. My setup is the following:

Single Exchange 2010 SP 3 UP 10 in a AD 2008 domain.  There was a previous 2003 or 2007 exchange server before I came and it is no longer in existence.  We have Federation setup and DirSync (Azure).  Here is the log for the Hybrid config:

Hi All,

I facing some weird issue from my sender, they failed to deliver email to our end and receive bounce back email. I did using Gmail, Hotmail and o365 email send to our end no issue. Every Day more than 2k email flow, only the few domain not able to send to our end. Sender hosted email is from Europe country, will this possible in between country email routing issue ? I had no idea to troubleshoot and not able to found any root course due to the exchange and trend micro don't have any log showing this few domain block.

This is the error code from sender: #< #5.0.0 smtp; 5.4.7 - Delivery expired (message too old) '[Errno 54] Connection reset by peer' (delivery attempts: 0)> #SMTP.

Our Server Environment:

Exchange Server : 2007

Email Filtering: Trend Micro IWSVA

Thank You.

Sam

Getting 5.4.6 Hop count exceeded after adding new accecpted domain and email address policy

$

Exchange 2007 sp3, we added a new accepted domain and edited our default email address policy to configure users with the new domain name email address (also kept our old email domain so people could still receive email at old address).

Some users are reporting that external senders are getting 5.4.6 Hop count exceeded ndr errors when they email attachments to our users old email address. They can email to the old addresses (which we left in place) without issue, they get the5.4.6 Hop count exceeded error when sending to the old address with an attachment though...

the new addresses seem to be working OK

Any ideas on why this might be happening?

SBS2011 Exchange blocking all incoming mail

Hi

We run SBS2011, since last friday for some reason all incoming mail is being rejected by exchange. The only thing that has been done is a Microsoft update. I can see the mail arriving at our Barracuda but is then rejected by exchange. we can still send mail out.

Some emails are not delivered to my Exchange Server 2007

Hello,

I have installed Windows SBS2008 with Exchange server 2007. I noticed that somtimes can happend that the email reaches my SMTP server, but after that the mail is lost. There is no error anywhere..I turned on SmtpReceive log and at the end of the log I can see:

,DATA,

,354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>,

,250 2.0.0 OK,

,QUIT,

,221 2.0.0 Service closing transmission channel,

If everything is OK, I have (ie.) the following entry in log file:

DATA,
,354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>,
,250 2.6.0 <55ed7cf0.a50bc30a.1a51.ffffbbfa@mx.google.com> Queued mail for delivery,
,QUIT,
,221 2.0.0 Service closing transmission channel,

So the only differnece there is whene there is a message 250 2.0.0. OK, there is no message.

Is there any idea?

Thanks and BR.

Mailflow help - internal relayed messages ending up in junk mail

$

We have a few internal applications that relay messages through Exchange and these emails end up in user's junk mails a lot of times. Junk mail filtering in Outlook seems to be the culprit, but we do not want to disable this.

The only solution I can think of is enabling antispam and adding the sending IP addresses of these servers to the Allowed IP Addresses so each message's SCL is stamped as -1, however, we run a hybrid environment with EOP (all mailboxes are on prem, EOP for mail filtering only), and Microsoft's recommendation is to disable antispam on all HT when using EOP.

Any idea on how to proceed with this?

SMTP Through Exchange to the RightFax FAX connector fails - RecipNotFound

$

Our goal is to have one of our Unix systems send email through Exchange and out our RightFax FAX connector.  The Unix system can send to Exchange successfully, and an Outlook user in Exchange can send a FAX successfully, so the pieces work.  Now we're trying to get SMTP emails with encapsulated addresses to send through to our RightFax FAX connector.  We're using the following formats in our testing:

(The phone numbers are valid external FAX numbers in our testing.)  When we send these messages, we are getting NDRs like the following:

IMCEAFAX-16145551212@ourcompany.com
#550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound; not found ##

This tells me that our system is attempting to deliver this message to an internal user who has this email address.  Obviously, since we are attempting to send to an external FAX system, none of our users is going to have this address.  I think this is happening because we are authoritative for ourcompany.com, but I have a feeling that if we change SMTP domain of the address to something like fax.ourcompany.com and set our system to not be authoritative, our system will attempt to send the email via SMTP to another system, rather than remove the encapsulation and send through our RightFax connection.  Has anyone done this, and if so, how did you get it working?

TIA ...

Mailbox forwarding differs from forwarding using a contact

$

Hello,

I’m investigating an odd issue between Gmail and Exchange 2010 SP3  that I’m trying to troubleshooting as part of our mail migration strategy, basically out of office messages are not being received by users in a specific scenario. The setup is as follows:

  1.       MX for contoso.com à on premise Exchange
  2.       MX for gmail.contoso.com à Gmail
  3.       Exchange uses mail contacts to forward to Google, using either
    1.       A mail contact performing the forwarding to gmail.contoso.com (i.e. internal @contoso.com and external gmail.contoso.com address on same object), no mailbox involved
    2.      A mailbox forwarding to a gmail.contoso.com mail contact

If a user in Google with a mailbox in Exchange is forwarding to a contact and sets their out of office, the following behaviour occurs:

Sender

Result

SPF Result

External (i.e. hotmail.com)

Recipient receives their own out of office, i.e. joe.bloggs sets his own out of office and gets a message in his inbox saying joe bloggs is out of the office”

Fail - spf=fail (google.com: domain of joe.bloggs@contoso.com does not designate 45.2.168.8 as permitted sender

Gmail (contoso.com)

Out of office received OK

Pass

Exchange (contoso.com)

Out of office received OK

Pass

If the above tests are repeated using a mail contact as in scenario 3a, in all tests the out of office is received and the SPF check passes.

Email delivery between accounts from internal Exchange, internal Gmail and external works fine - this just seems to be an issue with out of office messages, which is due to the fact an Exchange mailbox forwards emails using a different mechanism than an Exchange mail contact - is there a way around this?

Thanks

Combine mail enabled and disabled groups via group nesting

$

Greetings,

Can anyone point me to a document that describes the rules for combining mail enabled and disabled groups via nesting?

For example, user is a member of GROUPA which is not mail enabled and GROUPA is a member of GROUPB which is mail enabled so if I send mail to GROUPB does the user get it? Do all the groups in the nesting chain have to be mail enabled?

Thanks

autodiscover and other error message

Hello All,

I am in the process of migrated from 2007 exchange to 2013 exchange. The install went great and I have created a mailbox and account on the new exchange and tested mail flow with now problems. I can log in to owa with the new account with no problems.
When I try to use outlook on a machine to set up mail it will not set up. It keeps asking for a password over and over again and this loop never ends.

I am not sure if this is related to auto discover but I also ran that test and it failed.

I have created a srv in dns for autodiscover and I have the external address set as well. Please Help

Thanks.
