I have been reading various articles on here about how to do this. We current have 2 mail servers on our estate running exchange 2010. 1 Edge server and an exchange server running Mailbox, CAS & HT roles. To reduce the load on the 2nd server I have just build a new server 2008 box and want to move the CAS & HT roles onto this. I believe I nee to do the following steps. Could you please review these and let me know if I need to do anything different.
1. Install Exchange onto new server and on install specify only the CAS & HT roles.
2. Create all current send & receive connectors that are on the existing mail server on the new server HT role.
3. Change the MX record to point at the new mail server.
Does anything need to be done to the edge server? Also does anything need to be done to point the new box at the old i.e does anything need to be specified in the new HT role to point at the mailboxes on the old server?
Any advice you can give on this will be much appreciated.
